Progress Report 5: 14 October 2011
Floors
The week has seen a substantial change to the site with the flooring beginning to take shape.
At the beginning of the week a number of loads of concrete were delivered and pumped over the old schoolrooms into the voids which lie under the floor level.

This allowed the laying of the beam and block base for the flooring. The difficulty of access to the site required the hiring of a crane (some crane - it was the height of Caldy Hill and dominated the skyline of West Kirby for two days!). This was used to hoist the concrete beams off the lorries and swing them over the museum and old schoolrooms to the rear of the works site.
These beams were then progressively laid in rows on the walls supporting the upper structure of the new centre and the concrete blocks then used to bridge the gaps between the beams and create the base for the new floor. The photos below show the beams laid across the footprint of the new main hall and then the filling in of the beams with the concrete blocks to form the floor of the new entrance lobby and main hall floor.
