The Design and Cost
The appeal target is £850,000 and is based on projections for the cost of rebuilding the centre 2007/8. The cost will be reviewed during 2009 to update the figure to enable us to have a clear and realistic cost before we commit ourselves to the works.
It is costly because:
- We feel that we should aim for quality to meet both the present and future needs of the Church and community rather than cutting corners.
- We are building in a Conservation Area and have to meet strict planning requirements.
- A complete rebuild of the 1969 extension is necessary.
- The site is difficult to access for demolition and construction work.
- We feel the building should reflect the challenges of the time in the form of climate change and global warming.
